Anima and Animus
Jungian concepts of the feminine in men (anima) and masculine in women (animus). The anima represents a man's unconscious feminine qualities—emotion, intuition, receptivity. The animus represents a woman's unconscious masculine qualities—logic, assertion, spirit. These archetypes mediate between ego and unconscious, appearing in dreams and projections. Integrating anima/animus prevents projecting ideal lover onto partners. Developed anima/animus enriches personality with contra-sexual strengths. Jung identified stages of anima/animus development from primitive to spiritual.
