Actor-Network Theory
Sociological theory treating humans and non-humans as actants in networks. Latour: society is made of human and non-human actors. No micro-macro distinction—only networks of varying extent. Symmetry between nature and culture, human and non-human. Follow the actors to understand networks. Material objects have agency. Applied to science, technology, politics. Critiqued for moral relativism and flattening power. Assemblage thinking: reality is enacted through networks.
