Shadow
Jungian concept of the unconscious aspects of personality that the ego rejects. The shadow contains repressed desires, instincts, and qualities deemed unacceptable. Jung emphasized that the shadow is not purely negative but contains vitality and creativity. Integrating the shadow through acknowledgment prevents its projection onto others. Shadow work involves recognizing disowned parts of oneself. The shadow appears in dreams as same-sex threatening figures. Accepting the shadow leads to wholeness and prevents unconscious acting out.
