Persona
Jungian concept of the social face we present to the world. The persona is necessary for functioning in society but becomes problematic when identified with the true self. Overdevelopment of persona leads to inflation and loss of authenticity. Persona must be balanced with acknowledgment of shadow and inner life. The word means 'mask' in Latin, emphasizing performative nature. Jung warned against identifying ego with persona, which prevents individuation. Healthy persona is flexible, adapting to contexts while maintaining core identity.
