Virtue Ethics
Ethical approach focusing on character and virtues rather than rules or consequences. Rooted in Aristotle, virtue ethics asks "What kind of person should I be?" rather than "What should I do?" Virtues are excellent character traits developed through practice—courage, temperance, wisdom, justice. The virtuous person acts from stable disposition, not calculation. Eudaimonia (flourishing) is the goal. Phronesis (practical wisdom) guides application of virtues. Modern virtue ethics revival addresses limitations of rule-based and consequentialist ethics. Strengths include emphasis on character development and context-sensitivity.
