The Tao
Central concept in Taoism representing the fundamental nature of the universe. The Tao is ineffable—it cannot be fully described or named. "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao." It is both the source of all things and the pattern they follow. The Tao is characterized by spontaneity, naturalness, and simplicity. Living in harmony with the Tao brings peace and fulfillment. The concept emphasizes yielding over forcing, simplicity over complexity, being over doing. The Tao reconciles opposites and transcends dualistic thinking.
